Allen Iverson is a retired basketball player from America. He was incredibly good at the game, managing to play for a total of 14 NBA seasons. During this time, he won numerous awards for his achievements, his contributions and his overall successes, including the NBA All-Star Award 11 times and the NBA Most Valuable Player Award.
However, while Allen Iverson was indeed incredibly successful as a basketball player, but it didn’t take long for him to use the fame and fortune he obtained from the sport to find something else he was successful at; gambling. Allen Iverson had money to spare and spent it all- and more- in many casinos, gradually developing a serious gambling addiction, as well as an alcohol addiction too. Having come from an incredibly poor background as a child, with a mum who had a heroin addiction, having money at his fingertips made a complete change for him, and he became used to being able to buy whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted. His money made him generous, and he purchased and paid for things for himself, his family and his friends.
Sadly, the addiction is ruining Iverson’s life. It has lead to his wife divorcing him, obtaining full custody of all five of their children and left him with next to no money as well. He has even been banished from two major casinos in Atlantic City and Detroit.
Over the last few years, things haven’t got much better for Iverson. He is nowhere near as well off as he once was, and has lost his spark, his charm, his natural bravado that captivated everyone. He’s a shell of the man he once was because he lost everything to gambling.
If Iverson had anything left to gamble with, he’d probably still be doing it today. However, he’s a changed man now- rarely seen in casinos and splashing the cash in the way that he used to…although not entirely by choice.
